I do not think that all older people cannot drive. There is not a point in pulling a drivers license from someone if they are still of sound mind and can see. I do however think that they need to be checking on older drivers more often to verify that they are capable of driving. Too many of them cannot see the road to know where they are driving. They cannot see when people cross the street in front of them. But then you have the little ladies like my neighbor; age 103 still drives and walks 5 miles a day and has the best hearing and sight of anyone I know. There is no reason she should not have a drivers license but just the same some 50 year old people can not see in front of their nose and have a license and should not. We should not penalize those that are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves and their transportation. Where I live if someone does not have a license you are pretty much homebound. We have no public transportation and the OATS bus runs one time every two weeks. Most people have families but they all have jobs which makes it inconvenient to always be transporting around an elderly family member. Plus it would be annoying for those that could be doing it themselves.

Although I do not agree with the maximum age level on having a drivers license. I do not see any reason that there should not be laws in place regarding that after about age 60 they should be taking sight and vision tests regularly. Also they could be taking a quick short test regarding basic rules of driving. Such as which lanes to use and can they tell a red light from a green light. Maybe have to practice parking in any type spot and not getting too close the the neighboring vehicles. So many accidents happen when they pull into a parking spot and hit the other vehicle because they did not stop far enough back. Most of them that have troubles and should not be driving might fail these and they can have their license pulled and nonrenewable. Letting them fail at a test and the state pulling it might make things easier on the families that usually do the job and cause other family issues and fights.
