"MEMORIES OF MY CHILDHOOD"
(written for a school project, November, 1990)
Childhood is a funny thing,
You start off very small,
And when your parents say how cute you were
It just drives you up the wall.
I remember being five or six
And Daddy lifting me high.
I thought I was so high up
That I could reach up and touch the sky.
I remember all too well,
The first time I went to school.
Everyone but me could tie their shoelace up,
I felt like such a fool.
Once, I remember, I was running in a race -
We started off going quite fast,
But then I tripped over in the middle of the track,
Surprise, surprise - I came last.
I know you think childhood might be disastrous,
But my mum once told me otherwise,
So I'm telling you now without a trace of doubt,
It's usually the best time of your life!

And they got them in a snap!

We used to sit
On the worn-out carpet
In the hallway
And listen
While she'd play
