Gift ideas for the elderly

You can do the same with an MP3 player, or if you've got lots of money, an Ipod, and download recorded books on them.

9. I have shoeboxes, baskets and maybe barrels of old photos all tossed together. I'd love it if someone in my family came over with some albums one day and went through them with me and helped me organize them.

10. Gift baskets are great. Make them up yourself so you can fill them with stuff you know your oldie will like, also you won't have to mortgage the farm to pay for it. Specialty teas, coffee, candy, cookies, magazines, a blank journal and a good pen, jigsaw puzzles, lotions, scented oils, a small photo album filled with family photos, plant seeds, garden gloves, non-skid slipper socks, jewelry, small photo frames filled with the latest photos of the kids, note cards, stamps, are all good ideas. Yes, they are more stuff' but mostly stuff that will be eaten or used up.

11. Gift cards for movies or restaurants, and to make it extra nice, take us out and share them with us.

12. Go to Zazzle.com and you can have aprons, shirts, hats, mousepads, ties, mugs, and many other items made up with your own photos or design on them. Granny might agree to get rid of that old chipped seventies flower-power mug if she has a new one with pictures of her grandkids or pet on it.

I hope these suggestions are helpful. And one of the best gifts of all is to treat the elderly' like people, not pets or children we really hate that!
