Reflections: Changing careers to find happiness

This is my first foray into writing for public consumption. One of many 'firsts' I have initiated into my life over the last six months in an effort to find balance and satisfaction. For the last 8 years I have worked for the local Social Service office determining eligibility for public assistance (welfare, food stamps, medicaid, etc). While this has provided stability and financial security for myself and my daughter it has made my spirit weary. In April 2007 I picked up the bestseller, "The Secret", and adopted some of the techniques for creating a new reality for myself. Shortly thereafter I began to imagine how happy I would be owning a beach front hotel someplace exotic. Living in landlocked Colorado my entire life I have always been drawn to the beach and the waves and the island way of life. Mexico is as exotic as my public servant salary has allowed for the last three years. In August 2007 I returned from my second trip to Puerto Vallarta and my coworker returned from a diving trip to Cozumel. I had mentioned my hotel dream in passing to everyone who would entertain my madness and was in disbelief when my coworker and her husband approached me about forming a business that would specialize in owning unique, small, tropical hotels all over the world. We began researching on-line listings, learning about writing a business plan, reading up on laws regarding ownership of Mexican land by Americans, and exploring financing options. The next gift from the Universe came in November 2007 at the Millionaire Mind Intensive seminar hosted by Peak Potentials. We attended three exhausting yet exhilarating days in Denver and emerged with confidence and purpose and a true commitment to finding happiness and financial security in doing work that we enjoy. We formed our LLC the Monday after the seminar, launched a website, and found a new listing for a property in Mexico that met all our criteria. After two months of courting numerous investors we found our 'Angel Investor.' The three of us returned from a site visit to the property a week ago and are currently in the process of finalizing our funding. Did I mention that our target ownership date for our first property, set last August when we first decided to pursue financial freedom, is February 14, 2008? We have our letters of resignation ready to go.
