Best ski resorts in Connecticut

When it comes to selecting ski resorts, many tend to over look the ones located in Connecticut, because the season starts later than the those located in the northern New England states to go along with the lower snow accumulation totals. Many overlook the resorts despite the fact that Connecticut is an easy drive from New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, making them an ideal location for an easy weekend getaway.

Mohawk Mountain Ski Resort
If you want to visit the largest ski resort in Connecticut, look no further than the Mohawk Mountain Ski Resort, which has been serving the Northeast since 1947. Set on 350 scenic acres, made up of 107 ski able acres, of the Mohawk State forest, this resort features a total of 24 trails for skiing and snowboarding, with featuring the longest trail at 1.25 miles of the three resorts. In addition to the five chairlifts, there is one Wonder Carpet set in the Hawk's Nest, which is made for beginners. Mohawk Ski Resort is only needs to manufacture 95% of the snow for their trails while the other two listed and up making 100% of their own. If you enjoy skiing at night, the resort has 12 trails open for those the enjoyment of their visitors. This is one of the better resorts in the state for those who are looking to take up skiing or snowboarding as a winter sport and are going to be accompanied by children. Mount Southington Ski Resort
Another ski resort that should be a must visit when you venture to Connecticut resides in Plantsvile. Mount Southington Ski Resort sits in the River Valley where they have mapped out a total of 14 trails that are rated from beginner up to advanced set on 50 ski able acres. There are a total of eight lifts that service the various trails, which all are accessible when the sun sets. This resort features smaller trailers, their qualified and friendly staff make up for the deficiency. For the snowboarding enthusiasts, there is a half pipe and a terrain park for your enjoyment. Ski Sundown Resort
The last Connecticut ski resort to be discussed is Ski Sundown, which is located in New Hartford. Ski Sundown has a total of 60 ski able acres that translates into 15 trails for visitors. This resort caters to those learning the sport as 50% of their trails are set at the beginner level, while the an intermediate and advanced levels are split evenly among the remaining 6 trails. All but one of their trails is opened for night skiing and one of the more enjoyable to trail to venture on to is Tom's Treat, which is listed as a mile long. Of the three resorts, Ski Sundown offers the highest quality in lodging. Surrounded by numerous Bed & Breakfasts, it will be hard to find a place you do not enjoy. Though the ski resorts may not be large, all of the resorts are family friendly and are an ideal place for those who want to learn to ski or snowboard. If you have never been to a resort in Connecticut, you will need only visit to fall in with their quiet charm.
