Solitaire is an ancient card game. The word "solitaire" means by oneself, so solitaire is a card game you can play by yourself.

Spider solitaire is a version of solitaire which comes with Microsoft's windows operating system. It consists of several packs of cards which you need to sort into piles. Unlike other solitaire games, it is not assured that every unsorted pack, or game, is winnable. The goal of the game is to remove all of the cards from the ten stacks at the top of the window in the smallest number of moves.

Spider solitaire has several rules. These include:

* You can place black on black or black on red. In other words, you can mix the colours. But to finish a pile or move a column of cards, all the cards must be the same colour. It is sensible to occasionally put black on red, so that you can see what is under the piles of cards.

* The cards are in usual order of largest to smallest numbers with jack, queen, king, ace.

* You click on the pile at the right hand bottom corner to get a new set of cards. All the spaces must be filled before another row is dealt. Also, you can lose if you finish a pile of cards when there are spaces, because a new row will never be able to be dealt.

* You get points by finishing the piles in the smallest number of moves available.

* There are three versions of the game available. In the easy version, you only have one suit. In the medium version, you have two suits. In the difficult version, you have four suits. To complete the difficult version you must make sure each pile belongs to the correct suit, not just the colour.

* You can click the score box at the bottom of the window to show an available move. This may not be the best move to make as you need to follow your own strategy to win the game.

* You can move any card onto an empty pile to act as storage while you sort out your piles of cards.

Spider solitaire is an enjoyable game which can be played by oneself. It is more than enjoyable, it is addictive. Go and try it today. You may be surprised. I think it is more fun than any other card game.
