Gaining an Inch: Best Products for Hair Growth
Scientists have yet to whip up a miracle cream that successfully produces instantaneous hair growth, thus, granting longer, thicker tresses. However, research has shown that a nutritious diet, B vitamins, and break-through technology in the latest hair care products will maximize the potential for healthy hair growth and stimulate an unresponsive scalp.
Feed Your Hair.
Approximately, one-half of an inch per month of new hair is born from the scalp and exists as dead protein that can never be revived. However, hair can appear to be vibrant with the proper care and nutrition. The key to promoting hair growth is consuming a diet rich in B vitamins and minerals. Opt for colorful, organic vegetables, such as, broccoli, spinach, and kale. Beta-carotene (Vitamin A) has also proven to be very effective for hair growth. Yellow and green fruits and vegetables pack a significant amount of Vitamin A.
Boost your vitamin intake by taking a daily multi-vitamin with B-6, Biotin, and Folic Acid. Minerals, such as, zinc, magnesium, and sulfur are known to aid hair growth and maintain healthy skin and nails. Keep in mind, a deficiency of these essential vitamins will lead to overall poor health, thinning hair, and baldness. If you are noticing any of the aforementioned signs, chances are your diet needs to be adjusted to incorporate more fruits and vegetables.
The amount of protein in your diet, or lack thereof, will impact the extent of hair growth significantly. Soy protein is especially beneficial for hair growth and tofu is an excellent source for this. Foods with high protein content, such as, eggs and beans, will improve your hair's condition and maximize hair growth.
Protect Your Mane.
Maintaining proper hair care is vital for allowing new hair growth and eliminating weak or brittle hair. You should schedule regular trims every six weeks to rid hair of split ends which, eventually, mosey their way up to the root and cause breakage. Avoid washing hair everyday and over-processing, as these are the guilty culprits for dry and porous hair.
Rotate a hydrating mask and scalp therapy treatment weekly to condition hair and clarify the scalp. The scalp should be maintained and clear from blockage, such as, dandruff, to stimulate new hair growth. I highly recommend scalp massages to increase blood circulation and activate the oils. These treatments may be added on to your haircut for a fair price at your local salon or spa, or sneak away on your lunch break for a relaxing fifteen minute massage.
Blow dryers and other hot styling tools are very harmful to the hair follicles and should be used minimally. Comb hair with a wide-tooth comb to prevent snagging or pulling the hair, and opt for brushes that are gentle on hair. I prefer hair brushes by Mason Pearson, which are designed for people with thinning hair. They work by gently stimulating the scalp and, although, they are rather pricey, the results are not disappointing.
Consider Hair Loss Treatments.
For thinning or baldness, consider a stronger approach to hair growth. Provillus, a treatment for men and woman, deliver results in as little as six months and is ranked as one of the most effective products for hair re-growth. Although, it is only offered for men, Profollica and Rogaine are also known to be highly effective and safe for the re-growing hair.
The overall message for maximizing hair growth is to maintain a healthy diet rich in protein and create a lifestyle with little to no stress. Your health and energy will skyrocket while your gorgeous locks are catching all the praise.
