Fuel Economy Guide at Total Motorcycle, http://www.totalmotorcycle.com .
As a motorcycle's fuel economy can vary with engine size and the weight of the bike, the last factor affecting your bike's fuel economy is you.
Your riding style, the accessories you throw on your bike, the type and fit of the protective gear you may wear, all contribute to your motorcycle's fuel economy. Here are some quick tips to avoid taking miles out of your tank and money out of your wallet.
-Riding style. Avoid quick accelerations and decelerations. Both will increase fuel consumption and reduce your distance travelled on a gallon of gas. Avoid high speeds. Unless riding on a closed race track where fuel economy is not a concern, obey the posted speed limits and traffic laws. Higher speeds will greatly increase fuel consumption.
-Minimize accessories. Do you really need the aluminum panniers on your commute to work? How about those saddle bags? Any unnecessary accessories on your bike have the potential to increase aerodynamic drag and weight.
-Protective gear. A full-faced helmet is more aerodynamically efficient than your face. Loose fitting protective gear can increase rider fatigue and will increase drag.
Enjoy your next ride. Be safe and obey posted speed limits.
