Like many things, blogging is exciting at first but it can settle into a boring, tedious routine. If you are a part-time blogger then you are stealing time from other activities in order to write your daily blog post. The demands of the time needed to write posts, plus the growing realization that blogging is work, may make many bloggers want to quit. But don't give up! I've compiled a list of the best reasons why you should keep writing on your blog.
(1) For love of the game
If you are fortunate, you love writing blog entries. The reason to continue blogging is obvious you enjoy it.
(2) Your blog is one of your most powerful marketing tools!
A blog is a perpetual Internet presence that gives people access to important information about you:
(a) Who you are: your background, specialties, interests, and your contact info
(b) What you do whether it's information about you or your company, your blog is always out there, ready to tell the world about your product or service
(c) How you do things: the blog is a key way to communicate your values and your methods
(3) To hold or continue conversations
The comments feature of blogs is sometimes overlooked or underestimated. How many other ways can a writer or entrepreneur maintain a continuing public dialog with their peers, customers, or fans? Not only that, but you might be surprised at the things you'll learn through the conversations that occur within blog comments. If the blog goes away, so do these valuable conversations.
(4) To get through a rough patch:
Sometimes, when the blog seems like more work than fun, you just need to keep going. It helps to have a goal in sight during times like this, whether it is increasing your website's page rank, increasing your Technorati ranking or adding more subscribers. Sometimes the best way to keep writing in your blog is just to keep writing it!
(5) Tomorrow never knows
If you stop writing your blog, you eliminate a medium where people can learn about you and communicate with you. My own blogging experience has lead to some interesting and useful acquaintances that I would not have made without my blog.
In 2007 some experts were predicting that blogging was hitting a "maturation" state and that the growth of the "blogosphere" would slow down dramatically. This could certainly happen. However, there is still a huge interest in blogging and many people read blogs today. It would be a mistake to let momentary difficulty or discouragement end your blogging practice. These are five good reasons to keep writing on your blog. If you agree with even one of those reasons, you have enough motivation to keep writing. And you should keep writing.
