"A Day In The Life" by the Beatles off of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band hands down has to be the best pop or rock song of all time.
John's voice is haunting through out the song. The production is out of this world, even for today! When you consider that this song was recorded on a four track tape machine it's mind blowing. With the orchestra swells and Ringo's hypnotic drums the song takes twists and turns that are not only unexpected but are intoxicating. This song holds up after 40 years of repeated listening and I'm sure it'll stand up for the next 40.
If you still don't believe me go listen to the song and when you hear that piano crashing at the end (which by the way is four people on three pianos) don't tell me that it does grab deep inside and move you in a way you never thought you could be moved.
