Did someone say "might be!" Granted Senator Obama is part white, and part black. He claims no color to get votes from both colors. This will work less, and less as we get closer to the nomination. If he winds up running for President he will try to be "the invisible man." Still race will enter the fray.
How can race not be talked about? Every radio station, television show, internet writing and newspaper article mentions Senator Obama as the first African-American having the chance to win the Presidency. With all this publicity, Obama tries to stay invisible. It's simply a label he does not want, it can only hurt him. It's like Senator Clinton saying; vote for me ladies, I'm a woman!
If he's the black candidate more African-Americans will vote for him, but there is a negative side to this. Whites, Hispanics, and others may resent a candidate for President being elected because of his color. It's prejudice in the opposite manner.
Try this on for size. Lets say Senator Obama is elected President, but doesn't get the African-American agenda through Congress. The Black community will be more enraged than ever before. We've seen riots in the Black community, and they aren't a pretty sight. Try to imagine a riot under these conditions! I think that there is the potential for the country to be thrown back to the 1950's. The backlash, due to the backlash would be of epidemic proportion. Lets try to forget that one, it could bring down the way we think of the American way of life.
Being the invisible man also allows Senator Obama not to be on the record for his position on bills being voted on. It was pointed out the other day by none other than Senator Hillary Clinton. During a debate she cited Obama's voting record in the Illinois Senate. On over one hundred votes State Senator Obama voted present. That means he was sitting in his seat, but he had no opinion either way. You could say he was the invisible man when it came to voting. No opinion on State affairs? How can this man suddenly make up his mind on international matters?
Remember, Senaor Obama did not vote to go to was in Iraq. It just so happens he was in the Illinois Senate at that time. The Illinois Senate did not vote on the war, so Senator Obama is not on the record. So he says one thing, but was invisible on the issue at the time it was being voted on..
Senator Barack Obama certainly play the part of the invisible man!
