Identify and Stop Wasteful Spending
Most people waste money everyday without even realizing it. Therefore, the first step to stop wasting money in order to build for your financial future is to see where you are actually spending money. Are you wasting money without even knowing it?
Now is the time to evaluate your spending and find those area's in which money is being unnecessarily spent.
Convenience Stores:
Convenience stores bombard the customer with all the things we think we may need. These stores are virtual sponges soak up your hard-earned money. You stop to fill your tank up with gas, which is a necessary expense. However, when you walk into the store and are suddenly hit with an immense amount of temptations.
If you can simply purchase your gas and leave, your wallet and savings account will thank you. Who knows your waistline might also thank you. Anything you can buy at a convenience store you can purchase at the local grocery store for a lot less.
Last Minute Purchases:
Do you really need yet another red shirt? This is something I have to learn to ask myself. The best thing you can do in order to stop wasting money is to stop and think about whether you really need to make certain purchases.
If possible, leave the store and evaluate the purchase after you get home. If it is a necessary purchase, you can always buy it next time your shopping. If however, you decide you really don't need the product, you will have just saved money by avoiding an unneeded expense.
Dining Out:
By dining out wisely, you can cut your expenses. While dining out can be an enjoyable and sometimes needed experience. There are ways to save money while dining out. By simply ordering water instead of soda or alcohol, you can save a couple of dollars per person.
Order appetizers to be enjoyed before the meal and then share a single meal with your dining companion. By ordering an appetizer, two people can then order one meal and share it. An appetizer will generally cost about half the price of the skipped meal.
Fast Food:
Most people do not realize just how much money they spend at restaurants or the drive-thru during lunch. By simply taking your lunch to work instead of dining out daily you could increase your savings account quickly.
Skipping Breakfast:
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. By eating breakfast at home before leaving for the day, you will find the junk food in vending machines and convenience stores less tempting. If you eat a healthy breakfast at home, your wallet and your waistline will thank you.
Create a Budget:
Once you have evaluated your spending and found those areas in which money is being wasted, it is time to create a workable budget. Lack of budgeting will result in overspending when it can easily be avoided. A good budget will allow for money that will go directly into the savings account.
A solid workable budget is a budget that you will be able to follow without feeling like your doing without. This may take some time to create, however, once you do this will eliminate the chance of wasting money on something that is not a necessary expense.
Keep a Journal:
Evaluate exactly where you are wasting money in order to make changes. By keeping a journal of all money spent, you will easily see where you are wasting money and be able to make the needed changes. Once you know where your money is going you will be able to stop wasting money and begin to save for your financial future.
