of their homes and families. Deep down they are a loving breed who are excellent with children and only wish to please their owners.
Due to their highly energetic disposition these dogs need lots of exercise! They enjoy playing games and learning tricks. This dog has a tolerance for outside living in most climates, but are much happier living inside as a devoted member of the family. They are a comparatively healthy breed who require very little maintenance. They can be prone to cancerous tumors around eyes, sides, and breast and/or senility in their old age. Along with hip dysplasia and congenital heart disorders. With the typical life span of about 11 to 13 years.
True Testimony: I adopted a female doberman pischer of about 2 years of age. Without much knowledge of this breed and having a crawling infant in my home I was afraid to allow her inside my house.
She remained outside in the northwestern climate for 3 years with no problem. When my daughter reached age 3 I brought Medusa, my doberman, inside to test her capabilities has a house dog. To my surprise she is very well mannered.
Having never been house broke I assumed there would be some training I would need to preform with her. Never once did she have a accident inside my house, never once did she chew or shred a single thing.
She has turned out to be a indispensable family member. She has been a dream dog, truly. I love my doberman tremendously! She loves to run and play with my daughter and seems to have a strong need to socialize with my other dogs. She is such a sweetie and is forever alert and watching.
She always calls my attention to strange noises, cars, people, or animals near my yard or house. She has been very protective over my home and family. When company enters my home she is friendly but alert. Painstakingly keeping a watchful eye and never leaving my side when a 'non family member' is around.
The only problem I have at all is bath time, she seems to not appreciate water.
