Tips for dealing with sick kids

Keeping yourself calm when caring for a sick child is an essential part of giving quality care to that child. When you are calm your mind is much clearer to think and act accordingly. A child must remain calm when ill to make for an easier recovery. Having a calm parent or caregiver is a big part of that. Below are some simple, but soothing remedies for keeping yourself calm while still giving full attention to the sick child.

Staying Calm Remedy #1: Sip Tea With The Child
Sipping on tea with a sick child has calming effects for the child as well as the caregiver or parent. Besides the calming effect, there are also other benefits to sipping the tea that can actually help the child get better, depending on his or her illness. Tea can soothe a sore throat, calm a child's nerves, and even help relax a sick child enough so that he or she can get some rest. Having tea together also provides a wonderful moment for parents and children to share and play together, which can also take the mind off the illness at hand. Making it into a tea party can provide even more fun.

Staying Calm Remedy #2: Reflections
Just taking a short moment to reflect upon other instances like the one at hand can do wonders to help a parent or caregiver of a sick child. When thinking of the other moments, remember that the child did, in fact, get better. It's very hard when a child is sick. However, we must remember that in many instances it will pass.

Staying Calm Remedy #3: Play Cards
If your child is old enough and can still sit up (or even lie down and play), play some classic card games together. Games like "Old Maid" and "Go Fish" hold warm memories for many people. They're also fun. Playing games like these can take your mind off the illness and allow some moments of fun, which is very calming.

Staying Calm Remedy #4: Cuddle or Hug
Yes, I realize many will tell you not to get close to a sick person, but for a parent being close to your child is unavoidable anyway. Lie next to your sick child and just cuddle together. This can calm both the parent and the child. If you are merely the caregiver, a hug is great too. A hug or cuddle from a child has a great calming effect for both the child and the person on the receiving end.

Staying Calm Remedy #5: Read Together
Does the sick child have a favorite story? Most do. Read it to him or her. Not only will your child appreciate this, but while you're focusing on the story, you might have a moment where you aren't reflecting on the illness so much. Plus,
