First, let's define the word toxic; extremely harsh, malicious, or harmful. The three words alone describe a toxic relationship as well as the reasoning behind why a toxic relationship is unhealthy. A toxic relationship is not confined to just couples, you will find them among friends, family members, business partners and more. Many times, without knowing the definition of the word toxic, most people do not even realize they are in a toxic relationship until it takes it's full toll on them. The toxic relationship is devastating and can cause so many different problems in peoples lives. Problems that are capable of completely altering your health and the type of person you will be for the rest of your life.
It is so important to understand the three words that define the word toxic. When you clearly understand them, people will be able to identify a toxic relationship and the reason why it is toxic. Once you can identify your relationship as toxic, then and only then can you begin to first remove yourself from the relationship as well as recover and heal from the severity of the issue's it has caused. Depending on the type of relationship you were in, recovery from those relationship cans vary in the amount of time needed to heal. Some may not ever heal from the damage that was caused. This is why toxic relationships are very unhealthy. Now, lets take a look at the three words that define the word toxic.
Harsh; Severe, cruel, exacting, unpleasant or uncomfortable. Now we are getting somewhere. How many people do you know that can be identified by the definition of the word harsh? It is terrible to say but if you're with someone with any of the issues that are used to define the word harsh then you are more than likely in a toxic relationship. Physical abuse, mental abuse, hitting, controlling, sexual manipulation and uncontrollable tempers are all patterns that can be connected to extremely harsh conditions in a relationship, conditions that are a toxic relationship.
Malicious; deliberately harmful or spiteful. If you're with someone who intentionally goes out of their way to find ways to hurt you either mentally or physically then it's toxic. Being spiteful is a precursor to having anger problems and could later evolve into violence and abusive behavior. Be careful of malicious people for they are nerving and critical and often very deceiving.
