Guide to fishing in Puerto Rico

by Stephanie Andrews

Created on: January 25, 2008

Deep-sea fishing is the favourite form of fishing in Puerto Rico, especially for the billfish. If you have ever tried it, then the urge to return is very hard to resist. The spectacular tropical climate permits fishing for the best part of the year. Charter services operators are always available to optimise the experience.

Catch some mahi-mahi or yellow fin during the December through April period or even the dorado, tuna or white marlin. If your vacation is in the summer, then be sure to catch some blue marlin, which are always returned to the sea. In the winter month from October to March, the sailfish, white marlin and wahoo are most popular.

Light tackle fishing for tarpon is another method of fishing. This is in the lagoons and on the Island bays. Thrilling and exhilarating are no where close to the true emotions when it is being done.

Lake fishing which is done from the shores are adventurous and fun especially for young people learning the art of fishery.

Visit several operators who make deep sea fishing happen. These operators offer half-day or full-day trips. In their 16' to 18' Hewes and Maverick boats, it is mind-blowing especially if you are new to the sea! It is loads of fun and while at it, there is plenty of opportunity to improve on one's technique. What is more, there are competitions which bring together enthusiastic men and women who love fishing during the course of the year.
