There are so many variables in considering who I think are the best drivers , men or women. I guess that there are good drivers, better drivers and the best drivers regardless of gender. Age of the driver is a very important factor as well.
The insurance companies know that most of the car accident claims come from an age group ranging from sixteen or seventeen, depending on the relevant law of the country at which age a license to drive can be legally obtained ,to at or around twenty five. Generally speaking males in that bracket are more responsible for accident claims than females. No matter how good the drivers of that age group think they are , maturity and acting responsibly , well and truly take a back seat when the driver is at the wheel. The front passenger seat if not already taken is usually occupied by the Grim Reaper.
Insurance companies don't charge so much for premiums , assuming that drivers in the previous age group manage to survive somehow , once past age twenty five . Naturally they would expect their policy owners not to have made excessive claims , be convicted of any crime including drink driving and not have pages and pages of unpaid traffic expenses in a book thicker than "War and Peace" At twenty five the insurance companies expect their drivers to be better drivers than the previous age group and not so thick as well. Certainly not in any wars and at peace with other drivers. Generally speaking after age twenty five it would be difficult to say if males were better drivers than females. The Grim Reaper still likes to occupy the front passenger seat though if he suspects that the driver lapses into stupidity.
As drivers age and learn to slow down ,act responsibly and show courtesy to other drivers the
Grim Reaper gets just as bored as any other occupants in the car regardless of gender. These drivers are not only good drivers they are better drivers than most. The insurance companies know this and are keen to retain those policy owners. All sorts of rewards are offered such as rating one for life, nil excess, and discounted premiums .
Now the whole point of driving is to get you from A to B. This can be done by a good driver ,a better driver or the best driver. The best driver is one that allows you to sit in the front passenger seat and doze off secure in the knowledge that you will arrive safe and sound at your destination with the minimum of fuss.
Perchance an accident does occur through no fault even with the best of drivers and you find yourself standing next to the Grim Reaper while paramedics try to extract your torn and twisted corpse from the wreckage. Ask him the question ,"Who do you consider the best drivers, men or women?" Perhaps he could settle the argument. After all he is the expert.
