My favorite sitcom of all time is Green Acres. Although it first debuted on CBS in back 1965, I didn't start watching it until six months later, and I was glued to my TV set every week for that show. I felt disappointed when I missed it, but I still was able to see it again. I remember one Wednesday night I missed it because my mother wanted to see a special on Ingrid Bergman.
My favorite character on the show was, of course, Eva Gabor, who played Lisa Douglas. It was her beauty and glamour that attracted me to that show, and she became the idol of my youth. I only watched the show because of her, and if she had ever left that show, I would have stopped watching it.
Most of the show's run was on Wednesday night and it was in the Top 20; reaching at Number 6 during its second season (1966-67). But at the start of its fifth season (1969-1970) CBS moved it to Saturday nights and then to Tuesday nights during its last season, and it wasn't even in the Top 20 anymore.
In 1971, CBS not only cancelled Green Acres, but the Beverly Hillbillies, Hee Haw, and Mayberry RFD (Petticoate Junction was cancelled the year before)as well to appeal to a more citified audience. Thirty-seven years after it was cancelled, Green Acres is still the place to be.
Another one of my favorite sitcoms was Good Times. Since there were no VCR's, DVD's, or TiVo recorders back in the 70's, I used to tape this show, but on audio cassettes then; just like Idid Green Acres. It was defiintely funny during its first two seasons, but when John Amos left the show and they killed off his character, James Evans, the show just went completely down tubes. It wasn't as funny as it used to be. I tried to force myself to watch this show, even though I was losing interest in, but by the show's last season (1978-79), I just completely lost interest in it. It was just getting too serious and it wasn't as funny as it used to be.
But now, thanks to the miracle of new technology (VCR's, DVD's, and TiVo), we can enjoy these shows whenever we want to; instead of waiting once a week just to see them or using audio tapes just to tape them.

My favorite sitcom barely qualifies at a sitcom. Dramedy would be more like it. MASH transcended the typical sitcom format
