With a society mesmerized by youth and beauty, women today are feeling the pressures of having "flawless" skin. A wide variety of creams and moisturizers have always been available but today's woman is taking it to the next level with microdermabrasion.
Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic technique that can be done professionally or on your own at home. The procedure removes damaged or dead skin cells from the outer layer of the epidermal, also known as the stratum corneum, by using an abrasive tool to buff away the surface. Abrasives generally used for this procedure are zinc, aluminum oxide crystals, or a micro diamond surface. Blemishes such as acne, scars, wrinkles, or discolored skin can be reduced in appearance. The damaged skin cells are removed and then are replaced by rejuvenated, healthier skin cells for a fresh, smoother surface.
Professional microdermabrasion:
Microdermabrasion is performed by trained professionals at a spa or beauty salon. Dermatologists and doctors also offer a more aggressive microdermabrasion machine that can cause bruising and damage to the skin if not done by a professional. These machines go deeper into the skin, which pose a higher risk for damage, however, are more effective in the overall improvement of the skin. The cost of microdermabrasion done by a professional can range from $75 to $200 per session. Several sessions are recommended to obtain the maximum effectiveness of the treatments.
The microdermabrasion equipment consists of a hand held microdermabrasion machine. This machine is similar to a sand blaster, being that it sprays and circulates tiny, aluminum oxide crystals onto the skin using high pressure. Another more expensive technique uses a single, diamond tipped wand to buff away the skin layer. The microdermabrasion system exfoliates the outer layer of skin as a resurfacing device vacuums the dead cells away simultaneously. Technicians are trained to know how much pressure needs to be applied and how many sweeps of the skin should be done in one session. After the treatment is done, a moisturizing cream is immediately applied to rehydrate the area which will promote new, healthier skin.
Professional microdermabrasion treatments are completed in twenty to sixty minutes depending upon the area of treatment. The procedure in non-invasive, therefore a person having the procedure would be able to return to work or to her normal routine after having a treatment. The treatment is not generally painful,
