never regain the respect of the kids. It was still niggling away at the back of my mind about the face of the computer opponent when suddenly the words "now then now then" came into my mind.
I knew straight away that the opponent had a striking resemblance to Sir Jimmy Savile and he was taunting me. I wouldn't have cared at all had I not been totally taken in by the moment and the madness of it all. All I could see now was this 81 year old man opposite me in the ring and in much better shape. This was a guy that had competed in an seemingly endless stream of marathons for charity but now I stood before him with my guard up. I'm not proud of what happened next and I am relieved that it was only a computer game for if it had not been I would not be typing this right now and well there wouldn't be much charity work being done by Sir Jimmy. The main thing was that I had kept my dignity and the respect of my nephews and niece as I stood there triumphantly, sweating madly.
Now as I mentioned I am not a violent person and I am not impressionable enough to take what I experienced in that game out onto the street to the real Sir Jimmy Savile or anyone else. It did make me think how it could affect children and adults that are impressionable. I know the argument has always been there that says computer games are bad and that people copy them. I feel that is true some of the time but it is too easy to blame computer games all the time. It certainly acts as a cautionary warning perhaps to consider that the more realistic and lifelike game playing becomes the more potential for problems of recreating them in the real world will grow. After my experiences on the Wii console, I certainly will not be purchasing one myself, but I have been spending far too much time at my sister's house.
