Gift ideas for the elderly

Another great item is a Foot Stool With Support Handle, offering a unique design that allows you to reach higher places with greater stability. The stool has a non-slip textured matting on the surface that you stand on and non-slip rubber bumpers on the legs. The supportive sponge grip handle and balanced non-slip matting helps you feel more secure and balanced. This is a great idea, much safer than a ladder or regular foot stool.

Lots of great ideas in the pricier range are also available, things like the Extra Wide Aluminum Rollator, a walker that helps you stay mobile, and offers a place to sit down and take a break when needed. Made of ultralight aluminum, this walker has ergonomically designed grips for comfort and support, large wheels and cushioned seat and backrest makes it comfortable and secure. It comes with a loop-lock braking system, similar to bicycle brakes. I like the idea of a secure walker for an aging loved one, this one holds up to 375 pounds. The Electric Powered Upeasy is another idea, it converts any armchair into an automatic lifting chair. Great for people who have trouble getting out of an armchair.

How about a Guardian Alert 911 Pendant? It hangs around your neck, and connects directly to 911. This makes a wonderful gift for the older person living alone. It gives you and them piece of mind. The Smartshopper is an automated grocery list assistant, that prints out your spoken word onto a list that can be helpful in remembering what you need at the grocery store. Even younger people forget things when at the store, this unique gift would be great for elderly people or anyone.

The Original Dialogue Speaker is a small speaker that lets the t.v.'s sound easier to understand, and more enjoyable to anyone who may have trouble hearing. Designed to make voices more distinguishable, this small speaker can be placed next to a chair for someone hard of hearing, or next to the t.v. for use by the whole room. The Gel Comfort Seat is a compact gel-filled cushion, using high tech non-toxic gel dispersed evenly to allow long lasting comfort while seated. It's channel rib design offers maximum protection and shock absorption from vibration and rebound. This perfect gift will provide protection of the soft tissues, and is wonderful for an older person who still works, and may have to sit behind a desk for long hours.

The Jitterbug Cell Phone is a remarkable cell phone, made specifically with the older user in mind. It's extra-large buttons and text, and lighted dial make it super easy to use. It also has a cushioned earpiece. The Jitterbug operator can be reached anytime by dialing "O". A Walk-In Bathlift that gently lowers your loved one to the bottom of the tub, then raises them back when done is another very usable gift. This lets the user get in and out of the tub without slipping. It makes a great gift, but can cost up to $1000.00.

The main thing to remember when purchasing gifts for the elderly, is to look for items that are both useful and safe. You don't have to spend a lot of money if you use your imagination, and thoughtfulness. Spend time with a loved one, bake cookies for an elderly neighbor, or send flowers just to let them know you care.
