First and foremost, if you smell a musty odor in your home, it is likely that there is mold nearby. Mold is a fungus and may appear to be a black, grey, or green slimy mass. Mold is a type of fungus that can also float in the air or grow in masses on surfaces.
Usually, mold is found in moist and humid areas like the bathroom floor, outdoor patios, and gardens. Detecting mold can be done by sight and smell, but also by sampling by professionals. Depending on your concern, you may hire professionals to sample and test your home for mold.
You Should Know Where Mold Resides
Mold can be found in almost any location. It can reside in hay, grass, leaf piles, wood, and even paper. As mentioned above, it is also found in moist and humid areas, so rooms in your home like the bathroom and kitchen are prime locations for mold to grow. However, mold often grows on walls. If there is any wall that is frequently made wet or washed by the rain, it is likely that mold will appear there.
Mold can also grow under carpet padding and in cabinet crevices. Remember, mold can make you and your family sick so if you find any growing in your kitchen, you should immediately take actions to remove it. Mold could easily contaminate foods that you prepare.
