Mold can be extremely dangerous, so it is important to learn all you can about it and how to prevent your home from becoming a mold breeding ground. This article includes some helpful tips on preventing mold, controlling moisture, and cleaning it up.
Although mold is a natural part of the environment, it should not be part of the environment in and around your home since it can make you and your family very sick. In nature, mold's job is to break down dead organic matter, like leaves and trees, and help with the decomposition process. Outside in nature, mold must grow however inside your home it can be very harmful, even deadly so it is imperative to learn all you can about mold and how to protect your home from it.
Mold reproduces and grows by producing tiny spores, which are invisible to the naked eye, and it can easily travel through the air. Usually, mold will begin to grow as soon as a spore hits a surface that is wet or moist. There are more than 300,000 types of mold known at this time, but none of them will grow without moisture.

1. Mold can cause many health problems including allergies, asthma, respiratory problems, and even death in some cases.
2. To control mold, you must control the levels of moisture and humidity in your home.
3. If there is a water leak or problem in your home, fix it and you are on your way to fixing your mold problem.
4. If you see any mold in your home, make sure that you clean the area thoroughly and eliminate the source of any surrounding moisture.
5. Keep the level of humidity between 30% and 60% in your home. This will decrease mold growth.
6. If there are any damp or wet building materials or furnishings around or inside your home, make sure that they are cleaned and dried completely.
7. Clean mold off of any hard surface you see. Use water and detergent to scrub it off and dry the area completely. Absorbent materials like ceiling tiles should be replaced immediately if mold has grown on it.
8. Use insulation to prevent the potential for condensation on cold surfaces like windows, piping, exterior walls, roofs, and floors.
9. Do not install carpet in areas that mold is likely to grow.
10. Keep it in mind that mold can and will grow on things like paper, wood, carpet, and food.
