The Great Tree by Reflexive games has a dramatic fairytale theme. The first time you play this game the narrator takes you through the history of the Wren Faeries, who are apparently thousands of years old. The Faeries live in a Great Tree that used to give them everything they needed to survive, but things started to change in the forest and they were in danger of extinction so the faeries take action, this is where you come in.
There are two groups of faeries the Wren Faeries, who are the good happy faeries and the evil faeries who have turned to magic to survive. Because they turned to magic instead of the Great Tree they have become evil and dark and they have lost their beauty. The evil faeries blame the Wren faeries for their suffering and swear revenge.
The Swee used to collect the pollen that keeps the Great Tree alive, but they have been disappearing, so the young faeries must go out into the forest to collect the pollen and bring it back to the Great Tree. The faeries however are not the only ones who want the pollen. There are insects they must avoid and the evil faeries that are out to get them.
The faeries must fly around the forest collecting the special sweet pollen on their ponytails. When they have collected 10 pollen specs they fly to the tree to deposit their pollen and then return to the forest for more. Each time they run into an insect it will weaken them, if they run into too many insects they will lose all their life and a new fairy will have to come out into the forest and collect the pollen.
When you find Swees and collect the pollen they are carrying you get special powers to help you collect more pollen. Each round has a certain number of Swee that you need to collect in order to change your faeries attributes, like more life or flying faster; all of which will help you collect more of the special pollen.
The game is well suited for a young girl who likes pixies or faeries, and who enjoys fairytales. The graphic are fairly detailed and complete the imaginary world theme. Game play is easy to understand, but still challenging enough to keep your interest.
I give The Great Tree 3 out of 5
