Tips for managing stress

STRESS LESS.

Topic: 1 Stress is an integral part of our modern society
2 What are its symptoms?
3 What are its causes?
4 What effect has it upon our community?
5 What steps are available to lessen its impact on the individual?

The Oxford dictionary defines stress as

a "Constraining or compelling force,
b Effort, demand upon energy
c Emphasis on, placing of importance upon"

It is time to consider alternate thoughts on the relevance of STRESS in our society and offer alternate steps one can take to lessen negative effects STRESS may have upon the individual.
Also, these may assist readers identify personal responsibility in coping with the chronic affliction, the social curse of this generation.
As seen from the descriptions given STRESS by the dictionary, we find there are no negative connotations, no boogey men hiding under the letters, nor lurking like leeches in the jungle of terminologies.
Stress is a reality. It is an integral necessity in our everyday existence. Without it there would be no life!
Stress factors are involved in every step you take, in the manufacture of most products purchased in shops, in weather patterns, relationships, our work.
So what? The meaning of the word is often interpreted erroneously, these days, to give it a very negative implication when used in relation to one's health and mental condition. Is this the fault of the word?
Or is it the application of THIS WORD to describe supposedly negative situations that is causing the problems? Without STRESS it would be impossible for any of us to live at anything but the most primitive levels.
Why then is it such a dangerous creature? What are its characteristics?

In Can Stress Heal.' Cooper (Bookman press 1997) Dr Cooper refers, on p.29, to specific triggers that activate STRESS. He clearly differentiates betwixt NEGATIVE STRESS and POSITIVE STRESS. Also addressed are the often specific physical situations in the persons' life style that greatly increase their propensity to NEGATIVE reaction.
As a layman, one finds great sense in the concept that he is responsible, in the final analysis, for the way he chooses to think. If one chooses to entertain a specific negative thought process, then, as sure as chickens moult, your subconscious mind will do everything in its power to bring to pass what you desire or are thinking consistently.
