How to accelerate the speed of your PC

you do not use. Delete any old files. You can also purchase an external hard drive for backups and files you rarely use. These are fairly inexpensive and help save space on your pc's hard drive.

5. Remove any unnecessary internet plug-ins. These can be found by going to Control Panel Internet Options Programs. Disable any plug-ins or add-ons you do not need. Once again, research these if you are unsure.

6. Sometimes a bad sector on your hard drive can wreak havoc with your computer's speed. Running a check disk scan can help find and repair these sectors and files. Simply open My Computer Right Click C: or whatever your hard drive letter may be Properties Tools Check Now. This will normally ask to be run on your next start up.

After a while, even regular maintenance may not be enough to compete with newer, faster pcs. The time has now come for you to upgrade. The following are possible things you can upgrade to accelerate your pc. All of these are relatively inexpensive and definitely much cheaper than a new pc. If you are uncertain on how to install hardware, please check your local electronics store for help.

1. Increase your RAM. This is the temporary memory used by programs on your pc. This is vital for smooth performance. Check to see what type of RAM you need and research your computer online to see the maximum you can upgrade to. This depends greatly on your processor and motherboard. Try to upgrade your computer to 1 GB and anything over. Keep in mind that hard drive space is taken up when your memory runs out. This slows how fast you can access your programs and files.

2. Purchase a new hard drive. The more space, the better off you are. Many computers come with 80 GB to 100 GB hard drives. These can easily be removed and replaced by 300 GB and up drives.

3. Upgrade your processor. You will need to check your motherboard to see if Intel or AMD is compatible. Check your current processor speed and go from there. Try to purchase a duo or quad processor for best performance.

4. A slow graphics card can be murder on graphic intensive programs. For gamers or movie lovers, upgrading your graphics card can make your viewing experience much more enjoyable.

If you've upgraded and still have a slow pc, it may be time to finally purchase a new one. Research your options and purchase a computer that allows for upgrades. This will ensure your computer keeps pace with newer models for years to come.

Try the tips above and your computer should be running as good as or better than it was when you first purchased it.
