Heaven, Hell & Afterlife

What heaven means to me

There's a song that goes "this is just what heaven means to me." Heaven, in all its glory represents many things to many people. Biblically, it is a place where God rules, and that is what makes it heaven. No sin, no pain, no tears, just peace and love.

I often fantasize about heaven and what it will be like. I will be with God, loving Jesus, every single day. I will see him face to face, and I will know him as I am known. What could be more heavenly than that? I often climb onto his lap as I pray in my imagination. Then I will be able to slip my hand in his and sit in his lap and tell him how very much I love him. I will be able to thank him face to face for dying on the cross for me.

Heaven also represents reunion for me. Two years ago, my beloved mother passed into heaven. Five years ago, my brother passed into heaven. 30 years ago, my grandmother passed into heaven. There have been more, but these are the one's I most look forward to seeing after Jesus.

Heaven is a place where I will see the loved ones I miss so much again. I will hug them and talk to them and spend time with them in a perfect world where I will never again have to face the death of someone I love. Never again will I shed a tear of pain or heartache. Never again will I weep over the inhumanity of man.

We will have eternity to worship our Lord together, talk about the past, take a walk in a place more beautiful than we can imagine, spend time with all those we have read about in the Bible and in history, and learn everything we can about God and righteousness.

People often fear heaven in a sense because it's difficult to understand how we could be happy in a world that is such a big change from our own. I don't have to understand it, I believe God that it will be "heaven" and that's enough for me.

The older I get, the more I long for the day I finally leave this veil of tears and walk into the arms of all those waiting for me there. I have things to do here, like make sure my kids and grandkids are going too, but when my job here on earth is done, I can't wait to begin my eternity with God in heaven.
