ANTICONVULSANTS (Tegretol, Neurontin, Lyrica) are used to treat seizure disorders, but some of them have been shown to be effective in treating pain as well. They are especially helpful in the treatment of pain from fibromyalgia, diabetic neuropathy, and shingles.

SKELETAL MUSCLE RELAXANTS (Parafon Forte, Remular, Robaxin, Skelaxin, Soma) are used to alleviate musculoskeletal pain and spasms. These are especially helpful in back and neck injuries.

BIOLOGIC DRUGS (Orencia, Enbrel, Remicade, Humira, Kineret).
They inhibit factors responsible for inflammatory responses in the immune system. They are effective in treatment of moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis.

DMARDS: (Imuran, cyclosporine, Myochrysine, Plaquenil, Rheumatrex, Cuprimine, Azulfidine) Disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs are also available for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other painful autoimmune conditions.

In addition to all of these medications, there are therapies that use electrical stimuli to interrupt pain perception know as TENS therapy. Also, in some cases implanted or external pain pumps can dispense a continuous or intermittent flow of pain medications directly in to a vein, or into the spinal column. These and other devices assist in pain management.

There is no reason to live with continuous pain. If hot packs and OTC medications haven't been sufficient to keep you moving in the daytime and sleeping at night make sure to get with your doctor and get comfortable today!
