Remembering The Andy Griffith Show

the table. Homemade pies cooling in the open windows and the even the phone rarely needed, much less a cell phone. Somehow, these ladies adored their household jobs and made it extra special. So special in fact, the men would not know what to do without them.

If there were trips to make out of town for some reason, it could always be trusted Aunt Bea would have a small box or a brown paper bag filled with sandwiches for the road. Fast food drive ups were not needed then. Going out for supper meant a "Special of the Day" at the local diner. A date would also include a local movie and home by nine.

Evenings spent on porches, rocking or swing on a porch swing to a wonderful lullaby of soft squeaks, heard from an upstairs window as a child slept in his bed. Finding yourself lucky enough to catch light bugs in a jar, to use as a lantern, on a warm, balmy night.

Some soft talking, whispers really, on other porches across the street at night, sounding sweet and assuring, secure. or maybe some soft singing to someone special while he "wooed" his best girl. All the while knowing, when everyone goes to bed, they are completely safe enough to leave the doors unlocked.

And,in Mayberryland, USA, little Betty Sue grows up, graduates from high school to marry her high school sweetheart at eighteen years old, Bobby, the quarterback. They buy a small house near her parent's place and the small, naive life of The Andy Griffith era begins all over again. No wonder, Andy did not need a gun. Who would not want to live in Mayberry, USA?

That time of living the most easy example of simplicity will never come back again. Thanks to technology, computers,DVD players and beautiful wrap around porches disappearing all together. It is too bad we had to lose the innocence of it all through the years. I wish there were more Aunt Beas. I could use the help in the kitchen! If only life could be re-runs.
