A family member arrived at the hospital and collected my dog while I went into surgery.
In the aftermath I learned Jackyll had killed the second attacker, he never made it to the hospital alive. The other man, who I held at gun point, survived but had severe injuries from the attack. He is now serving life in prison for the assault on myself and others. I suffered a broken nose and jaw, 3 cracked ribs and 2 broken ribs. Along with 34 stitches overall to my face, back of the head, and arms. Jackyll had two broken ribs and had lost a piece of his right ear, which had appeared to be bitten off. The police later told us the men had been on a crime spree for about 2 weeks. They had beaten a elderly lady within a inch of her life, leaving her for dead, the day before. In addition they were also suspects in two other murders involving home invasions. I would have been killed that day if my pit bull had not saved my life, the police assured me of that fact.
This story is completely true. This happened to me on Jan. 3, 2003 in a tiny town near Paw Paw, Michigan. Right on the state highway M-43. The local news ran stories about my hero dog and the hell I went through to stay alive. Jackyll was awarded a certificate of bravery. Jackyll passed away within the year due to complication stemming from that day. Shortly after his death I moved, never feeling safe in my home again.
I will never forget Jackyll and what he did for me. He was a faithful, loyal, loved, and honored member of my family. I still own several dogs, all of them considered "bad breeds". Call them bad if you like I call them body guards.
