Debate around children beauty pageants

Maybe somebody else can convince me otherwise, but in my opinion I think that Beauty Pageants for children are just wrong. You can say they are just a bit of fun, but i've seen these things on television. The children look like miniature adults and don't tend to get much time to act as a child between rehearsals, hair and make up etc. It is really upsetting. Usually the child has been trained to become really competitive, which is sad as there are plenty of opportunituies in life for people to experience this. The parents tend to be extremely pushy, and it's just obvious that they are putting their children through this process for their own personal gratification. Children are not dolls! I agree that maybe the pageants do have some positives, like promoting confidence etc, but generally they promote competition and the importance of superficiality! Why at such a young age, would a parent want their child to experience insecurity and societal pressure. I know a big part of my happiness growing up was my lack of awareness of the world around me...my parents protected me from that. These parents are deliberately exposing their children to it. Let us also think about the children who don't win! How do these competitions affect them? It is hard dealing with rejection as a teenager or adult...let a lone a child! Children don't like to lose at at anything. Normally adults let children win against them at games every now and then...it's lovely to see a child smile! In this game however, there seem to be no niceties, there can be no kindness! These children are taught to pose and smile falsely! I am interested to see what type of people these children grow up to be!
