The human condition

The human condition seems less human as the centuries casually roll by. Humans eagerly embrace invincible armor fortified by scientific research. Yet our educational systems teach to outdated, biased tests and not the important core subjects our students desperately need to learn in order to compete on a global level. Intellectually, we are weak but we hide
behind myths, lies and facades. Physically, we're mere shadows of our ancestors. We're out of shape and out of breath. Waiting to take the next pill, shot or magical potion to make everything all right. Many modern societies have reduced the amount of physical labor demanded

of men and women. Yet the condition of human beings seems more fragile than ever. Our water is probably not safe to drink. The food we eat has become tainted by greed and sloppy manufacturing. Our babies and toddlers pacify themselves with toys contaminated by lead. Human beings are in bad shape. We are incredibly overweight. We're bored. We're inactive.
We're addicted to everything in the world.

The human condition seems plagued by the past, obsessively worried about the present and mildly concerned with the future. We seem to love and respect history and historical events but we learn nothing from its lessons. We repeat the same mistakes and we lose even more lives in the process. We worry about every little thing regarding the here and the now. But we
don't take the proper steps to truly improve our lives. We may lose 10 pounds this month...only to gain 20 pounds the following month. We give up drinking but we take up smoking. We never seem to escape our own personal cesspools.

The human condition seems tragic. Pregnant women murdered by their own husbands. These bored men had secret girlfriends on the side. It was easier to murder than to obtain divorces. Mothers killing their babies and older children because they couldn't cope. They blame their actions on their parents and/or the tragedies in their tainted childhoods. Or when humans express concern and are willing to help...they'd rather help starving children thousands of miles away instead of their own neighbors.

I harbor some hope that the human condition could change. Each generation places all of its hopes and dreams on the sturdy, eager young shoulders of its children. The human condition
is incredibly flawed though. I feel we were designed for a specific purpose yet each individual has to figure out his/her personal puzzle and place in this vast universe.
If only a handful of truly unique individuals with incredible gifts emerge from each country...every generation or so...the examples of their exemplary lives will give us the courage to continue battling our demons. Birth...life...death...rebirth . They're all part of our strange, sad, wonderful, insane human condition. We have to continue this incredible quest.
