It possible to write a winning resume, even if you do not have experience. This issue is particularly important and relevant to people changing career fields.
When you are changing a career field, you might find that you may not have exactly the experience that you need to fill a certain position. This obstacle can be overcome by following a few important steps.
First, carefully analyze the position. This is relevant because there are many jobs that are similar. For instance, a project manager in one industry may not be necessarily qualified to be a project manager in another; but if the position is analyzed correctly then many of the skills are probably the same.
Second, match those skills. Write the resume functionally rather than chronologically. Tell the employer what exactly you can do for them. In today's marketplace, employment history is not as important as the skills you bring to the table.
Third, leave out all the nonsense. Many resumes are scanned electronically and weird fonts and colors don't show up very well. Other things to leave out are contests that you may have won, except if they are relevant to the job. For instance the Noble Prize is relevant, being voted "Most Likely to Succeed" is not.
Writing a resume can be tricky and confusing, but it is your first foot in the door with potential employers. Take your time do it right. Research is the key for a good resume.
