industry, but are known to be versatile animals that can also be found competing in English disciplines. They possess good strength of body and of mind in terms of trail and pleasure use.
The Arabian-
The Arabian is the oldest recorded breed of horse that is still in existence today. With blood that can be traced back many hundreds of years, these animals have a certain mystique that attracts many people to them. Arabians are very versatile horses, being "good" at almost anything that they are trained, and conformationally inclined, to do. They are very loyal animals, with the courage and strength of horses twice their size...which is why they do so well in Endurance and Competitive Trail events. On the downside, some Arabians have a tendency to be "hot" or "spooky", and thus their riders and owners have to understand how to get around these behaviors. Arabians are one of the most highly "shown" horses, with breed shows that have disciplines all the way from Trail to Dressage. Arabians are the type of animal that "can" be great for trail and pleasure use, if they are properly trained and trust their rider.
The Thoroughbred-
Most people know Thoroughbreds for the splash that they have made in the racing industry. Their bodies are naturally inclined to be faster and more agile than most other breeds, as they tend to have height, musculature and a "fiery" spirit on their side. In addition to racing, Thoroughbreds excel in various English disciplines, like Dressage, Show Jumping, Hunter, etc. Typically, Thoroughbreds are considered to be a little on the "hot" side, and they have their close Arabian ancestry to thank for that. While certain individual horses might be good at western disciplines, trail riding and pleasure use, overall, Thoroughbreds tend to be a little spirited for this type of work.
The Appaloosa-
The Appaloosa is a fairly new breed, when compared to the Arabian, but they have become very popular with many people. These horses are often characterized by the color patterns on their coats, but conformationally, they tend to be very sturdy, strong horses. Appaloosas, typically, are very sure footed animals with the presence of mind to be bold and courageous...on the flip side of this, many people feel that they are "pushy" or "aggressive" when not properly trained. Because of their mental stability, these horses are often used as trail mounts or family pets.
The Draft-
This is a very "broad" category, as there are hundreds of horses that are considered
