"Deep Blue Sea" is a game where a story is told of a character, Jessica Braxen, who left her career to become an explorer in under water adventures and look for treasure. She chooses to visit the seas around French Polynesia because she hears there are lots of ship wrecks around in that area and it would be a good area to search for treasure. In this game, you will help Jessica on her journey by completing each puzzle level that will give her some treasure, but will give her clues to the big treasure. Along the way, when you earn some money, you're able to purchase tools that will help you on future levels. The game also takes you through the story of Jessica's adventure and tells a story in between levels.
Each puzzle has the same concept. Swap two pieces on a grid so that three or more of identical pieces are in a line either horizontally or vertically. Those pieces will disappear and the original pieces will move in a downward motion to make room for the newer pieces at the top. The object is to get a treasure item and a piece of a larger treasure to move to the bottom row of the grid.
The game play is above average and kept my attention. The puzzle is easy enough to follow, but challenging enough to keep my interest. The graphics were very well done and the music was calming and definitely fit the setting. I think the storyline and the theme were very creative, yet not very innovative at all. There are several games in the market with the same puzzle concept. While all of these games are enjoyable, it's not an original idea.
I think this would be an appropriate game for children as well as adults. Because of the story between each level, children may be interested enough to stop and read the story. They would be playing a computer game, but still would get some reading time in. The puzzle concept is definitely easy enough for a child to understand and be able to do. I would give this game a rating of 4/5 with 5/5 being the highest possible rating. It's definitely an enjoyable game. The cost is $19.95 and I'm still undecided as to whether or not I would buy it because there are similar games on the market. I would suggest downloading the free trial to decide whether you want to buy it or not, but I personally don't think it's a bad value for the money.
