Best comedies since 2000

Next time you are feeling under the weather on a rainy day, take this list to Blockbuster, load up on DVD rentals, and spend the day on your couch with a pillow and a blanket and these BEST COMEDIES SINCE 2000. You may not like them all, but these comedies are a must see at least once:

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE (2006), Rated R, directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, starring Abigail Breslin, Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell, Toni Collette, and Alan Arkin. WHY IT'S FUNNY: A dysfunctional family on a road trip.

SIDEWAYS (2004), Rated R, directed by Alexander Payne, starring Paul Giamatti, Thomas Hayden Church, Virginia Madsen, and Sandra Oh. WHY IT'S FUNNY: Two grown men on a week-long trip through wine country.

ALONG CAME POLLY (2004), Rated PG-13, directed by John Hamburg, starring Ben Stiller, Jennifer Aniston, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Debra Messing, and Alec Baldwin. WHY IT'S FUNNY: Great quotes from Philip Seymour Hoffman ("Let it Rain") and Alec Baldwin ("Mazel Mazel, Good things").

KNOCKED UP (2007), Rated R, directed by Judd Apatow, starring Seth Rogen, Katherine Heigl, Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, and Jonah Hill. WHY IT'S FUNNY: Seth Rogen comes to terms with the result of his one night stand and is forced to grow up in nine short months.

THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN (2005), Rated R, directed by Judd Apatow, starring Steve Carell, Seth Rogan, Paul Rudd, Catherine Keener, and Jonah Hill. WHY IT'S FUNNY: The title explains it all.

OLD SCHOOL (2003), Rated R, directed by Todd Phillips, starring Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell, Ellen Pompeo and Jeremy Piven. WHY IT'S FUNNY: The scene of Will Ferrell's character streaking through the college campus will have you doubled over in tears.

WEDDING CRASHERS (2005), Rated R, directed by David Dobkin, starring Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Christopher Walken, and Rachel McAdams. WHY IT'S FUNNY:

ELF (2003), Rated PG, directed by John Favreau, starring Will Ferrell, James Caan, Bob Newhart, and Edward Asner. WHY IT'S FUNNY: Will Ferrell in yellow tights is priceless!

ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY (2004), Rated PG-13, directed by Adam McKay, starring Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and Christina Applegate. WHY IT'S FUNNY: Sidekicks named "Champ" and "Brick", and Will Ferrell's accent is hilarious.

NAPOLEON DYNAMITE (2004), Rated PG, directed by Jared Hess, starring John Heder, Haylie Duff, John Gries, and Aaron Ruell. WHY IT'S FUNNY: Stupid quotes like "I see you're drinking 1%. Is that 'cause you think you're fat? 'Cause you're not. You could be drinking whole if you wanted to." This is one of those movies that you'll either love or hate.

SUPERBAD (2007), Rated R, directed by Greg Mottola, starring Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bill Hader, and Seth Rogan. WHY IT'S FUNNY: High school seniors attempt to make it to a party after a fake ID liquor store purchase attempt goes wrong.

GRANDMA'S BOY (2006), Rated R, directed by Nicholaus Goossen, starring Peter Dante, Allen Covert, and Linda Cardellini. WHY IT'S FUNNY: A 35 year old video game tester is forced to live with his grandmother.

I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY (2007), Rated PG-13, directed by Dennis Dugan, starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Jessica Biel, and Dan Aykroyd. WHY IT'S FUNNY: Straight firemen attempting to be gay to get health benefits is bound to make you laugh.
