In April of 2006, Paris told Elle magazine that "I like being flat," adding that she enjoyed never having to wear a bra. But within a year, gossip-mongers began raising a new question. Did Paris have breast augmentation surgery?

Their argument was simple: her breasts seemed larger. But others wondered if it was simply a new push-up bra, and began studying Paris's most-recent photos. "Her larger breasts have always appeared to be due to fancy push-up bras," according to plastic surgeon Dr. Youn. In March of 2007, he wrote on his blog that "I don't think she's had her breasts done." (After which he asked, "Does anyone actually care what she does?") That July another plastic surgery site posted a photo of Paris wearing a bikini on a Los Angeles beach, concluding that "there is no doubt Paris has an all-natural bosom... To be exact, Paris is looking more like 34A or small B-cups."

But the rumors continued. Even in her 2006 interview with Elle, Paris admitted that she'd wanted breast surgery when she was 13, until her parents objected. ("Years ago," she's been quoted as saying, "I asked my dad for a boob job and he said it would cheapen my image.") And gossip site "The Superficial" noted the same month that Ms. Hilton had just paid a visit to the Modern Institute of Plastic Surgery. ("It doesn't look like she got any work done, but it's gotten harder to see through clothes ever since I lost my mail order X-Ray glasses.") Another rumor argued that Paris was investigating the possibility of a tummy tuck.

To date Paris hasn't confirmed any breast work, leaving the question as an unsolved mystery for the internet's amateur celebrity detectives. (One blogger wrote that "they're larger, fuller, and much more threatening to smother a small nation than ever before.") It seems unlikely that Paris could slip into a plastic surgeon's office without being spotted by the throng of celebrity photographers who follow her. But that blog post inadvertently gives an important context to the question - the real reason that this rumor survives.

People really just enjoy talking about Paris Hilton's breasts.
