When I think of American cuisine, I personally think fast food. I have a special place in my (healthy!) heart that absolutely adores the taste of a quickly grilled hamburger and a side of curly fries smothered in ketchup, sometimes ranch dressing. It makes my mouth water.

No matter where I go, however, I want fries sprinkled heavily with salt and dunked deliciously in whatever sauce I feel up to for that particular day. Fries go with anything grilled. Chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, steak, fish...They are a side dish worthy of the greatest plates. I am huge fan. Lately I have taken to making my own fries by cutting up potatoes and merely spraying them lightly with PAM, a low in fat greasy spray. They taste delicious and satiate my desire for fast food restaurant hopping.

Even making dinner for the family, I will choose fries over mashed potatoes, even while cooking a more hearty meal. They are a staple within my heart. I nearly died and went to heaven during a sale at our local market. A one pound bag for one dollar! I bought five, so as not to seem too greedy, yet wished for more immediately. Is it an obsession now? Maybe. We are often coming up with different and unique recipes to tie into fries! Even adding bacon and melted cheese for a gooey, greasy and indulgent meal. Mmm. I am drooling.

Often I arrive at a restaurent, family-oriented but not technically fast food, promising myself I will try something new. Something exciting. Yet my eyes always find the dish heavily mounted high with fries, and it continues to land on the delicious looking picture until I know beyond a doubt I have to order it, or for the entire meal I will feel regretful while longing for a freshly baked fry. Side dish the fries with a cola and I am in absolute heaven. Salty, crunchy, crisp, firm...there are so many words to describe the complete and utter adoration for a favorite food, and the way it makes one feel; happy, relaxed, giddy...Hungry!

But anyhow, yes, wonderful fries. The deciding choice for all of my purchases and orders. So utterly delicious, so completely attainable.
