No, we should not be driving SUVs.

It's funny, but I've heard that Americans often laugh at the small cars Europeans drive. I've also heard that in some parts of France, there are bicycle rental shops on every corner. Ask yourself, who is more advanced? Are we more advanced because we own SUVs, while laughing at a driver in Italy who own a smaller car, or are the Europeans more advanced because they seem to be more conscientious?

I have also read that SUVs are very dangerous on the road. They often plow into much smaller cars, killing its occupants; funny thing is, these SUVs are often the vehicles I see going 80 miles an hour on a 55 mile an hour stretch, or turning sharply around corners they shouldn't be turning around that fast on.

Also, driving a smaller car would certainly not only save gas, but help the environment. Why are we still driving SUVs when we know that our government has been pursuing drilling for oil in the arctic? Don't you see the polar bears that are dying from melting ice floes and starving to death because they can't find food? Haven't you heard of countless other environmental issues that are the consequence of global warming?

I have to seriously question why people are selfish and do not think about the environment and how this will affect the future generations of all life, including human beings. Why do we live for today so much, not thinking about tomorrow? Why do we not learn from the past and realise that improving the world start with each and every one of us?

I also have to question why people have the need to drive really ridiculously large vehicles, not only SUVs, but Hummers. Is it to impress people? If you are driving this type of vehicle to impress people, then aren't you placing the importance of the environment and other human beings and animals after your own desire to impress others? I seriously would wonder whether this is a truly moral way to live. If you do not care about this issue, then my personal opinion is that you shouldn't be allowed to share the same space with other human beings who do care.
