Monk is the man with the misfiring mental process who cleans up the mess, and makes right the world. Monk is a long list of adjectives, and adverbs.
Drawing a Character of Adrian Monk, I would likely outline it thus:
Physical appearance:
Middle aged man, with dark curly hair, average height and undetermined ethnicity, always immaculately dressed and groomed. He wears identical clothing including brand daily.
Personality:
This is the part that makes Monk. He is ever grieving and innocently paranoid about everything. His uncontrollable compulsions that identify him are a need to count posts, use wipes whenever he has touched anything or anyone unfamiliar. Monk is continually obsessed with his phobias and with the memory of his dead wife Trudy. Uncanny and often effortless observational skill noting details in a crime scene that everyone else has missed. He can focus when brought out of his internal world once a week to solve a crime. The ultimate co-dependent, Mr. Monk is convinced he cannot function without his assistant or psychiatrist. Frequently forgets that he needs money to live and pay his assistant and psychiatrist. Honest to a fault.
When Monk goes against his own routine and shows the person who cares for others it is very touching. Since the beginning of season one he's found himself in situations where he must push through a phobia in order to reach a suspect, or solve a case. Unfortunately, or fortunately for his character this does not help him overcome his fears.
Monk's affect on people:
People who get to know Adrian Monk cannot help but fall in love with the man. He is endearing because of and in spite of his phobias. He is an irritant that you would sometimes love to strangle. His feelings are easily hurt. This overly sensitive brooding man makes it impossible not to hurt his feelings, but he will most likely always forgive you.
Captain Stottlemeyer has a very soft spot and a seeming sense of obligation to Monk having once been his partner and seeing his friend's grief. Yet often the Captain would love to throttle Monk and gets irritated at having to constantly reassure him after losing his temper.
Randy Disher: sees Monk as both a friend and competitor he is forever trying to gain the captain's favor. He wants to hone his own skills to the perfection of detection that Monk has.
Natalie: won't let Monk rule her world as much as he'd like to. She does enable to a point, but only to a point. Frequently asks favors of Monk to solve the mysterious events
