Dogs are my favorite animal without a doubt. I am surrounded by them and I can't get enough. If I see one on a walk I want to greet it. If I see a person with a happy dog I tend to think better of them.

With four dogs in my household it would be sad if I couldn't choose dogs as my number one favorite animal of all time. Fortunately even with our ups and downs, I will always love dogs the most of all animals. They are a part of my family, and while I admire all creatures in general I admire dogs the most.

The reason I choose dogs is:

1)Dogs love people. Even the most aggressive dog probably has a person that they love. My favorite dogs though, are the happiest ones. The ones that will greet perfect strangers with a full body wag. Well socialized dogs are well adjusted dogs. If they love to meet new people they are just the sort of dog I'm talking about.

2) Dogs are beautiful. With so many types to choose from I don't know if I could ever name a favorite breed. Add to that different dog personalities and you've got me totally overwhelmed. From the fluffiest dogs to the smoothest, from the chunkiest dogs to the thinnest, from the littlest dogs to the biggest, I love them all.

3)Dogs are smart and eager to please. They can work with people. There are rescue dogs, therapy dogs, guard dogs, lap dogs, dogs for warmth, dogs to pull sleds, dogs to herd sheep... even dogs to sniff cancer.

4)Dogs love food. I love food too. My dogs get themselves homemade dog cookies when I make myself homemade human cookies. I can share this love with them. By altering recipes to keep them healthy and happy I can treat them to homemade dinners, special treats and even doggy ice cream.

5)Dogs love to play. There is nothing more fun than watching them wrestle one another, run and fetch, learn new tricks, pounce around the room, or discover a new toy. Even older dogs love to play, so long as they're healthy. Just like me they never grow out of their desire to have fun.

6)Dogs love exercise. This is important because they love food so much. It is a refreshing balance and reminds me that I love exercise too. Sometimes this is easy to forget. My dogs don't let me! We exercise together and they make even a boring old jog into an adventure and bonding experience.
