Racism in Asia

Since the time of the Dutch colonized Indonesia, the country has been at unrest in one form or another. From problems of the Dutch who discovered and occupied the Indonesian Islands, to the ethnic, religious, economic troubles of the nation. To the natural disasters that have befallen the country. Indonesia has survived. However, it has not been easy in any of the areas listed. The country is made up of many islands, that have had a problematic history.



When traveling to Indonesia there are many facts one should be aware of, to begin with there are many major factors that every traveler must know. Where is the safest place for their lodging, how to get around the area for entertainment, how to locate restaurants, how to communicate with the native citizens of the area, and what is the monetary exchange rate.

Facts:

The capital of Indonesia is Jakarta. Here are a few more facts that you may find interesting about the country of Indonesia. The industry and work force of Indonesia is mainly agriculture, representing 43%, which produces rice, beef, peanuts, palm oil, poultry, pork, eggs, rubber, cocoa, coffee, and cassava (tapioca). Industry at 18% their products manufactured are, apparel, cement, footwear, mining, chemical fertilizers, plywood, rubber, petroleum, natural gas, textiles, and food; they also include tourism in this percentage. The service industry makes up 38.7% of their economy, so the tourist industry is very important to the country's economic success. Indonesia does produce oil, though they still need to import oil to meet their needs.

Indonesia is a fascinating and beautiful country with many differing cultures, within these cultures are many subcultures, which are complicated, and have had many struggles in their history while adjusting to everyday life. The most challenging is learning how to live and work together. The population of Indonesia is 245,452,739; of this number the percentages of ethnic groups' breakdown in the following way: "Javanese 40.6%, Sundanese 15%, Madurese 3.3%, Minangkabau 2.7%, Betawi 2.4%, Bugis 2.4%, Banten 2%, and Banjar 1.7%, other or unspecified 29.9%." According to the census of 2000 the percentages of religions among the people of Indonesia breakdown this way; Muslim 86.1%, Protestant 5.7%, Roman Catholic 3%, Hindu 1.8%, other or unspecified religions are 3.4%.

Realizing these numbers are tedious, they are important in helping to understand how these numbers could affect visiting Indonesia. There is a need
