Artists are like glinting flashes of rainbow in a dusty parlor; speckles of dazzling sunlight in a shadowy glen. So when its time to choose a gift for an artist, you should unleash your imagination and let it run free.
Artists are enchanted by the unusual, soothed by the luxurious and aroused by the sensual. They thrive on the impractical and can sense every nuance of the gift-giver, so the time you take to choose the perfect components will mean as much as the gift itself.
Begin with the basket itself. Just because it's a gift basket, it doesn't mean it literally has to be a basket. How about a gaily-painted bucket, an extravagant wastebasket or a hand thrown pottery chip bowl? Find a unique container for the gift basket and you are halfway home.
Next, think about the type of work your artist does. If she is a painter, color is a big part of her life and she might like anything that represents a rainbow to her: a scarf, an assortment of brightly colored pens, or a colorful wind chime or mobile. If he is a writer, then words are the keys to his kingdom. An original edition book, a collectible fountain pen, or unique bookmark may just be the ticket to that spontaneous smile.
Other gifts might include a crystal figurine that catches the light or a pair of handmade lamp work bead earrings. Natural bristle brushes, watercolors, a sketchpad all these would be welcome additions to a gift basket for the artist.
You should select two or three main gifts and then add some less expensive but delightful extravagances, like gourmet chocolate covered macadamia nuts or a canister of fine London tea. Succulent fresh fruit or delicious bakery fresh cookies are both good choices if the recipient will be enjoying the basket soon.
Last but not least, don't forget to dress the gift basket in its formal finery for its presentation event. Shimmering cellophane will look perfect enclosing its offerings, but you could use metallic netting or any transparent material that carries out the theme of luxury and decadence. Top the confection with the bow of all bows, and your basket is ready for its debut, a token to your artist that speaks clearly and concisely of your affection for them!
