Assessing advertising's influence on body image

How Advertisements Can Contribute to a Teens Negative Body Image

There are certain kinds of a advertisements that can contribute to teenagers negative body image. These advertisements are in fashion magazines and food advertisements. Fashion magazines always use skinny models in them. This causes teens to be dissatisfied with their bodies. 80% of teens are afraid of their size. When teenage girls compare themselves to models on TV that are too skinny, teens easily get persuaded to take risks of their own health. It can cause health dangers to many teens such as eating disorders.

Because of teenage girls thinking negative of their body images, it all started off with food advertisements. Food advertisements are to blame for obesity. This can make teens to feel less confident with themselves because of their body if they gain weight. When people gain weight, others sometimes do not understand why people can't simply lose it. Eating very bad foods that are a risk to a humans health is almost like getting addicted to alcohol or any bad drug. It is like a disease. A person can not simply stop eating everything they are eating that is bad for them because of the addiction. Addiction is all caused by nicotine. The only way addiction can be stopped is if advertisements try to contribute an opposite affect to what they do show. So, a good way to cause a person to not eat certain foods, is to mainly show how the advertisements are presented to these kinds of people. If magazines and commercials started advertising different types of foods, this can cause teens to not also be happy with themselves, but they will spend the last couple years growing with nothing but healthy food being put into their bodies, which will most likely give teems a chance to live longer, happier lives.
In order to stop this major problem of anorexia occurring in America, Many fashion magazines should put all kinds of different sized models in their magazines and not just the skinny ones. If many fashion magazines had different sized models in them, there would be less negative thoughts running through the heads of many teenage girls, which would cause many to gain more confidence within themselves. More teens will end up happier with themselves with how they look knowing that they don't have to try and compare themselves to the skinny models.
Therefor, advertisements should make more of an effort to care about the teenagers and other people around them, and how it can affect them.
