The newspapers are filled with accounts of home invasions and home burglaries these days. Simply locking your doors and windows are unfortunately not enough any more to guarantee your safety nor to protect your possessions. With the job markets changing also daily, your neighbors are moving out and no longer do you know who lives down the road or even beside you. Yes, there are association meeting and neighborhood watch groups, but in the middle of the night, while all are asleep, who is watching your home, who is watching your car, who is listening out for the screwdriver popping out your car window?

It comes a time, when you cannot solely rely on your neighbors to watch your back or the back of your house. You install motion lights, you trim the shrubs, you double check each night before turning into bed to make sure all is quiet and secure, then you retire to peaceful slumber. During the night, while you are asleep upstairs, a burglar visits your home. He unscrews the window in the garage, quietly lifting it out of its framework in the darkness of that one section the motion lights does not pick up. He enters your attached garage and robs you of all your tools, your skis, your golf clubs and worse of all your security, all while you are peacefully slumbering. The only silver lining is he did not enter your home. You immediately call an alarm installation service and they will set up your account and system before the end of the day.

Are you now safer with the alarm system? Not necessarily. Your system has mechanisms on your front door, garage door and back door. After several months dealing with accidental false alarms caused by you and the embarrassment of responding to the monitor, and the occasional failure to even set it due to laziness or forgetfulness, you get complacent with just not setting it all the time. After all, there hasn't been any more attempts since you had it installed. The next thing you know, you are robbed again. Hopefully, it is again the garage and not the home. You still haven't replaced all the items that were stolen the first time, so this time they only get the weed whacker. There goes your security again and you vow to never ever go without setting that alarm again.

At the same time you are making this vow about your alarm, you begin considering a guard dog. You have always wanted a pet and what better excuse than to guard your house. You convince your wife of the pros of dog ownership and you both go shopping
