When starting a home business is a bad idea

by Sparx

Starting a business from home can be a very rewarding, if you do it right.
It can be your worst nightmare if you do it wrong.

Just like any business you need to know what you are getting into. Most businesses fail within the first two years, statistics on home businesses are harder to come by but the reported figures put the failure rate much higher. Why? Lack of awareness, lack of honesty and an unrealistic expectation .Most people are not willing to take that serious look at what they have to offer and have no idea how much work it can take to run a business. Some businesses seem to practically run themselves but that is the end result of years of hard work. Starting a business is never the same as owning an established business.

Ask yourself these questions and you will know if having a business at home will work for you. Unfortunately for a large number pf people the answers will show that working from home will not work.

Are you a homebody?
It's a valid question. It might be fun to work in your pj's all day, but do you want to be stuck in the house working like that every day? For most people, getting out of the house and around other people is one of the biggest joys of having a regular job. If you have a need to be around people, then working from home is not for you.

Are you easily distracted?
When you currently have a chore to do, do you find yourself looking for other things to do or taking frequent breaks? You don't have to be a workaholic to work at home, but you do need to be aware that procrastinating is not an option. If you can't get your regular chores done on time, then you may have the same problem with the chores of a home business.

Are you keeping your day job?
Are you prepared to work 40 hours a week and up to 40 more when you get home? Even 1-2 hours an evening at your home business may be too much to handle if you're already putting in long hours at a demanding job. If working weekends is a problem then you are definitely not ready to work at home.

Are you giving up your day job?
If you plan on taking your home business on as a full time gig, then you need to be able to pay the bills with your earnings. If your lifestyle requires you to earn top dollar from day one, then working from home is a recipe for disaster.

What are you willing to give up?
Your den is now the office. The spare bedroom is the "shipping department" and the warehouse used to be your garage. Tuesdays used to be poker with the guys, now it's the day your shipments come in. Sunday
