Why I use WinRAR

Simply put: I use WinRAR because it works. I have not found any problems with the compression software, and it has become increasingly useful to me over the years. I have worked on several projects such as modifications for computer games that require files to be compressed into an archive. It has been a necessity for me. I have needed to download compressed files on many occasions, and WinRAR is the easiest program to use to open them and extract their contents. With just a few clicks, one is able to specify a location for extraction and open the previously compressed files. It's just that easy.

I have used WinZIP a few times in the past, and I have not been pleased. For starters, it doesn't compress files to the same degree that WinRAR does. The files can still be rather large though stored in an archive, and they can be a pain in the neck to transfer through email or by uploading to another server. Compression is all about making the most of using the smallest space not just trimming the files. I also use WinRAR because it is cheaper than WinZIP. I get more for my money. All software updates and upgrades to WinRAR are free, while WinZIP users need to pay up to $9.99 for theirs! In my opinion, it isn't worth that much money to maintain a program that doesn't even compress files to a small enough size. It's much better to just pay once with WinRAR and enjoy the benefits of their service. In addition, WinRAR happens to support more file types than WinZIP. Not all download sites use the same file format, so you want to make sure that your program can open it. WinRAR is able to open most types of compressed archives (it is hard to find a type it cannot open).

In conclusion, WinRAR is one of the most useful programs available to computer users today. The need for it is steadily increasing as file compression becomes more popular, and I am glad to be one of the many people who uses it. When working as a file up loader or site moderator, it is an absolute necessity. I have found myself using it at least five days a week. Plus, it is very cheap and costs nothing to maintain after the initial purchase.
