I don't go to too many concerts. For the most part, I prefer to listen to the music I enjoy at home, in my earphones. It allows me to have the volume I like without making everyone else around have to endure the wall rattling obnoxious rock and roll that I like. It also keeps me from having to hear anything else, while I'm trying to enjoy the music.
When I do go to concerts, I usually end up having a lousy time. No matter how excited I may be leading up to the event, I'm always disappointed by the time it's done. There seems to be some typical issues that can be pointed to, that contribute to this condition, for me.
First of all, the ticket prices. For me, it's not worth the outrageous price of admission unless you're going to see something really special. A comeback tour from an old band you love might be reason enough to pay such high charges.
Then, you have to find parking and that's not cheap either. Not to mention fighting your way in and out of the parking lot. Then you wait in line-up after line-up for food and drinks, to go to the bathroom, and to buy t-shirts or posters or whatever. These are all overpriced, too.
Then you finally get to your seat and settle in. Depending on the kind of music you're going to listen to, the crowd will vary. I listen to a little of everything, so I've experienced lots of different crowd types.
With a band that's currently appealing to a younger crowd, you'll want to avoid floor tickets. Although it's great to be able to get up close to the stage and see the band, mosh pits will suck you in wherever they form. These were great fun when I was a teen but they seem to have gotten more aggressive over the years.
It used to be about jumping up and down and bouncing off the people around you some. Now there are just too many idiots who think it's all about slamming into you and everyone else around you. They throw elbows and fists and feet. Fights frequently break out, usually when someone who doesn't want to get involved gets smashed into and takes offence. Lots of artists will stop the shows now untill the moshing stops.
Most of us enjoy a drink or two to help us unwind. But at the last few concerts I attended, there were people around who were completely loaded. Falling down, slurring, slobbering drunk. They stink, they wobble around bumping into people and they get loud at random times. Why would you spend that much on a ticket and then get so loaded you can't even see or talk? Stay home if you want to get that loaded.
