Assessing advertising's influence on body image

Celebrities always look good,
Take a look at Paris Hilton.
She always looks thin and pretty
Regardless of the club she's hittin.

Still not convinced?
Look at Hillary Duff.
She looks good no matter what,
Even on days that are tough.

Take a look at the older heads even,
like Tyra Banks, or Cher.
They look good in virtually anything
That they ever wear.

Peruse, if you will,
Over any given ad.
You'll be quick to notice a model,
With a six pack on her abs.

Check out the soaps
On NBC or even ABC,
I can tell you really fast,
Its only perfection that I can see.

Now I am a sixteen year old girl.
I keep up on all the trends.
But I can't fit into any of them,
Like all of my friends.

I am five foot three and kind of little.
I weigh about one forty.
I'd love to wear those skinny jeans
But my legs are way too shorty.

I'd also love to have the chance
To wear some of those awesome heels.
Just to be a bit taller,
And to see how it makes me feel.

I've started restricting my calories.
To shed some unwanted pounds.
I've felt a little weak and tired,
But its worth it, weird as it sounds.

I figure if I can get myself
Just a little thinner.
I'll not only be more popular,
But probably also more of a winner.

I'm guessing I'll be more attractive,
And probably get more guys.
After all, I know no one who wants a girl
Who has big thighs.

I want to look like the famous people.
I want to be like Nicole Riche.
I want to be really skinny.
I want to find my own niche.

So I will continue counting my calories.
I think if I eat under a hundred a day,
I should be loosing weight,
Or well along my way.

I'm not naturally pretty
Like the models in those ads,
But I think I can look better,
So I can at least wear all the hottest fads.

And then I probably won't feel quite so bad,
About myself and my pitiful looks.
Because I'll look just a little more
Like the models on TV and in the books!

I wish I could be one of those people,
Who just naturally looks good.
But I wasn't that lucky,
So I decided I had to do what I could.

Hopefully my plan will work,
To make me more like everyone in Hollywood.
So I can look more like all them,
And more like I should.
