has an anti-virus program installed. If not then you need to get one. You can either buy it or get a free version like AVG. Running this program regularly ensures that you can delete unwanted or harmful files like adware files, botnets etc. Also it is good for protecting your PC from virus programs.

3. Remove unwanted software
Everybody likes to install fancied games and software intending to use them regularly. Very often we hardly use them ever. You are better off removing these programs from time to time and freeing up valuable space.

4. Using the msconfig option
The msconfig option comes with the Windows system. This tool is used to maintain all ini files, services and the startup programs on your computer. Most software that you install also includes the option of automatically starting the program each time you reboot or start your computer. If you do not need them regularly then do not opt for this option, uncheck the ones you don't need and get better performance.

5. Using Defragment disk
Disk Defragmenter is a Windows utility that consolidates fragmented files and folders on the PC to ensure that each file occupies only a single space on the disk. Defragment your disk so that the files are properly sorted and the operating system can easily find the files. This will increase the speed of your PC and give you an enhanced experience.

Thus you have a host of options for speeding up your computer. If your PC is an old one then you may want to upgrade the PC hardware first and then use the software hints provided above. How much you want to spend is also an indicator of how much you want to spend on upgrading your PC. Sometimes buying a new PC may be more meaningful than upgrading. Decide what you want depending on your situation.
